| Harari Community in Toronto, Canada Celebrated Shuwal Eid |
|
Toronto Hararis Celebrated Shuwal Eid in Toronto, Canada on Saturday Oct.10th. The event was organized by the Harari Heritage Center and beyond entertaining. As I capture the event one of the most interesting that caught my attention played by two lovely Harari girls Iman Abdulhakim Jami and Nawal Bahar Sherif. This delivers strong message to all Harari Community and for parents in Diaspora to nurture Harari Language and pass on to the yang generation before it is too late.
Although these two lovely girls Iman A. Jami & Nawal B. Sherif are born and raised in Diaspora, they are no stranger to the Harari Communities around the globe. They both previously performed Harari cultural show at annual HSCF events, in Toronto 2006 and on 2007 in Harar and stole the hearts of the audience with their fluent Harari play performance. Both parents are highly credited to their effort in nurturing them with their mother tong regardless of the other’s influences. We should be proud of and follow the foot steps of all those who made such efforts and in maintaining and nurturing our mother tong that is unique and challenged identity.
Having said that, with this particular play they have delivered a strong message to Hararis in Diaspora to act on one of the most important and critical to Identity Crisis, raised their concern the disappearing own Harari language and call up on the community to act now. Here I urge all Harari Community to acknowledge and work together to revive our mother tong. Please watch the video may be entertaining, but act on the message. |
